Recovery Capital Project

Unleashing potential: driving business innovation through recovery insights

In a world full of complexity, the answers we need often lie in places we overlook. At worldXchange, we believe that resilience and innovation don’t always come from boardrooms; they come from people who’ve rebuilt their lives. From those who’ve overcome addiction and found new purpose. People whose lived experience is rich in insight, adaptability and strength.

Imagine a future where the skills honed in adversity shape the workplaces of tomorrow. Where lived experience is recognised as a strength. Where those who’ve navigated life’s hardest challenges help solve talent shortages, bring fresh thinking, and drive change that benefits us all.

Our project focuses on those in addiction recovery, who have too often been defined by stigma. These individuals bring real strengths: problem-solving ability, adaptability, entrepreneurial thinking, and a perspective shaped by navigating complex systems. Their resilience and insight are assets businesses can no longer afford to ignore.

This UK and Ireland-wide initiative brings together leaders from diverse sectors: university academics, corporate executives, charity leaders, entrepreneurs, and therapeutic community experts. Together, they’re unlocking new paths for growth, adaptability and innovation that benefit everyone.

Help us go further

This isn’t just a project. It’s a platform for change. We’re creating new paths forward across business, community and public services. But we need your support to keep going.

Every donation helps us build more bridges, amplify unheard voices and unlock the potential hidden in plain sight.

The project's focus

We're bringing together voices from across the system to drive real change. We’re creating a space where all perspectives are valued and fostering connections that lead to opportunities, recognition, and respect. Through collaboration, we’re reshaping what recovery can mean for business and ensuring that no one is left behind.

Telling new stories
We’re shifting perceptions through storytelling, spotlighting the resilience, adaptability, and leadership that recovery brings. These stories highlight how recovery is helping build the skills today’s world needs.

Recognising strengths
Through learning and accreditation, we formally recognise the invaluable skills gained through recovery. This creates pathways to meaningful work and opportunities for lifelong careers.

Making the case
We work with partners to prove the economic value of inclusion, showing that hiring people with lived experience isn’t just the right thing to do – it’s a smart business decision.

Proof of potential
We launched this project with a powerful first step: a day spent at Coolmine Therapeutic Community in Dublin. It brought business leaders, academics, charity directors, entrepreneurs and people in recovery together in one room — not for presentations, but for shared experience.

The aim was simple: to understand addiction recovery from the inside out. To hear stories first-hand. To see the strength it takes to rebuild a life — and the skills that emerge along the way.

What came through wasn’t just understanding. It was a sense of shared purpose — a recognition that recovery builds exactly the qualities our workplaces need:

  • Resilience – the strength to keep going

  • Leadership – earned through experience

  • Adaptability – the ability to thrive in uncertainty

These insights have shaped the project from day one. They're already influencing how we think about accreditation, career pathways and the economic case for change. Coolmine showed us what’s possible when we listen deeply and lead together.
